Priority Moving encourages you to attend this event and help raise awareness of child trafficking and exploitation.Child exploitation is happening right here in our community at an alarming rate. Come and educate yourself so you can help make a difference and protect our children. "PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office
will hold a community forum at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 to raise awareness about
the spread of child sexual exploitation and trafficking across the
Portland-Metro area, and into Washington County.
The event will take place at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (9205 SW Barnes Road in the Souther Auditorium). The forum will begin with a screening of the documentary Pornland by
Dan Rather. Pornland reveals how Portland has become one of the most
notorious cities in the United States for the criminal exploitation of
young girls, some as young as 12 or 13 years old. The film also explains
how these young victims are being lured into the sex trade from
surrounding suburbs, including Washington County.
Following the film, a panel of experts representing the Washington
County District Attorney's Office, the Oregon Human Trafficking Task
Force, Providence St. Vincent Emergency Department, the Sexual Assault
Resource Center, and LifeWorks NW will explain their work in helping
young victims and tracking down the criminals who target them. The forum is free and the public is encouraged to take advantage of
this opportunity to learn more about this issue. Childcare will not be
provided and no children under 14 should attend. To ensure adequate
seating for all, an RSVP is requested, but not required, by leaving
message at 503-216-7192.
For questions regarding the event, please contact Julie McCloud, with Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit at 503-846-2585.
Stephanie Steers, Miss Oregon 2010, will also attend the forum. She
supports the efforts of local authorities and wishes to raise awareness,
educate potential victims, and lend support to help those that are
victims to escape human trafficking. Ester Nelson with the Sexual Assault Resource Center will be present
at the forum and will be available for media interviews following the
presentation."
